10,000 Luos want to secede due to the excessive force used on them during demos

Over 10,000 Luos from Nyanza region have moved to court in a bid to get orders to form their own independent state where they can govern themselves.

In a petition filed at the Milimani Law courts, Pascal Ojijo Ogillo want a referendum to be conducted so that they can secede.

On behalf the 10,000 people, Ojijo says the state has been repeatedly using excessive force on Luos during demonstrations.

“The State has also used the law and media to paint Luos as evil, against development and violent,” he argues

He also claims that the state has been discriminating them when distributing resources to other tribes.

He argues that they have a right to self-determination and want the court to bar the state from stopping him from self-determination activities.

Ojijo says that unless the matter is dealt with urgently, the ethnic profiling, discrimination, lack of development and harassment shall continue.
