11 NIS Sacco employees charged with 223 counts of fraud to remain in custody as pre-bail report not ready.

11 Njiwa Sacco employees charged with 223 counts of fraud related to loss of Sh 166 million will remain in remand prison for more days as they wait for pre-bail report.

The 11 were on Monday arraigned before the Kahawa Law Courts and the court was told that the probation report of bail was not ready.

The case was adjourned to October 12 when the pre-bail report will be produced in court before the ruling for bail in delivered on October 16.

Only one of accused is out on bail Mirriam Nthenya who was sick and had to be admitted in hospital for medical attention.

The 12 accused in the case include Nicodemus Masea, Amos Kipchumba, Caren Chebet, Karen Jepkemoi, Daniel Mberia, Violet Wali, Hamis Zaunga, Eric Rono,Mirriam Nthenya, Tony Muliro, Sammy Afubwa and Moses Mwenda.

They were all jointly charged with the first count of conspiracy to commit a felony where it was alleged on diverse dates between January 2018 and March 2023, they conspired to steal from Njiwa Sacco Ltd Sh 166,549,379.

There were separately charged with the other 222 counts of forgery and stealing from the sacco.

The accused denied all the counts that were read out to the from the 57-page chargesheet.

Through their lawyers, they asked the court to release them on reasonable bond terms pending trial.

The Kahawa Law court ordered for a pre-bail report to be prepared and presented to court before he can give a ruling on bail.
