19 residents of a village in Naivasha who destroyed Eburru Hills Farm fence have been detained in custody for 14 days.

19 residents of Gathondia Village in Naivasha were on Monday detained for 14 days as police investigate them for vandalising and destroying Eburru Hills Farm’s fence.

They were arraigned on Monday before Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe who allowed the application by police to detain them for 14 days to complete investigations.

It is alleged that they damaged a fence valued at Sh 2.2 M belonging to Eburru Hills Farm Limited.

The court heard that on February 29, they maliciously damaged the farm’s barbed concrete pole fence valued at Sh2,285,000.

The investigating officer John Kinyongie of DCI Naivasha told court that the matter has elicited community outrage claiming that members of the public had attempted to storm the police station in Naivasha to rescue the 19.

“There has been a lot of public outrage with some members of the public trying to storm the police station at Naivasha Sub County to rescue the respondents and consequently remove them from safe custody and avert the due process of the law,” he said.

The court allowed the application by the state and granted them 14 days to continue holding the suspects pending conclusion of investigations.
