5 casual workers in court for beating up two guards who blocked a food vendor from selling them food.

Five Casual workers at a construction site were on Tuesday charged before a Kibera court for allegedly beating up two guards who blocked a food vendor from selling food to them.

Humphrey Odongo, Patrick Lukambi, Elvin Mwashi , Fredrick Thitandi and Alex Midenyo were arraigned before Kibera Chief Magistrate Ann Mwangi and charged with the assault.

It is alleged that the accused persons attacked and assaulted Joseph Wabwire Wanjala and his colleagues on February 1, 2024 at Tarbisalam construction site in South C.

They all denied the charge and asked the court to release them on reasonable bond terms.

According to the police, the guards allegedly prevented a woman from accessing a construction site where they were working to sell food to the workers leading to their assault.

The police file further states that the woman who was blocked by the guards from accessing the site was a regular who sold food to the casuals which infuriated the workers.

Magistrate Mwangi released them on Sh 10,000 cash bail with the surety of the same amount with a credible contact person.
