Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s die hard supporter Nuru Okanga was on Thursday charged before a Milimani court for insulting President William Ruto on a Youtube channel.
Okanga who sat for this year 2023 KCPE exams was arraigned before a Milimani court where he denied the charge of publication of false information contrary to the law.
According to the charge sheet, on November 20 this year at unknown place within Kenya jointly with others not before court using the Youtube Channel Riba News, Okanga published a video insulting the president.
The video was captioned “Nuru Okanga on Fire’. Ruto you are stupid an idiot! Umetoboka akili wewe”
Police claim that he further used intimidating and abusive words saying “Ruto you are very stupid! You are very stupid. Yaani Unakuja kudanganya Wakenya machana kuwa mafuta haikuwa. You are an idiot”
It is alleged that he said these words knowing full well that they were false and calculated to discredit the reputation of a state officer and with intend to provoke a breach of peace.
Okanga denied the charge and pleaded with the court to release him on reasonable bail terms pending trial.
Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina released him on a Sh 10,000 cash bail and set the pre-trial hearing for December 13.
