Big Blow to Waititu as High Court Dismisses His Bail Application

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu suffered a major setback on Monday after the High Court dismissed his bail application pending appeal.

Justice Lucy Njuguna dismissed Waititu’s bail application, stating that he had not presented sufficient grounds to warrant his release.

The judge ruled that the right to bail is not automatic and that an applicant must convince the court that the appeal is arguable and has a chance of success.

The court also rejected Waititu’s argument that the appeal would take too long to be heard, stating that the court’s schedule ensures the appeal will be heard and determined within two months since the main appeal has already been filed.

Waititu had applied for bail, citing his health concerns as one of the reasons for his release.

However, in its ruling, the court stated that prison facilities are well-equipped with medical services and, in case of serious health issues, convicts are referred to a referral hospital.
