Controller of budget Margaret Nyakang’o charged in Mombasa with operating a Sacco without a valid license

Controller of budget Margaret Nyakang’o was on Tuesday charged with conspiracy to defraud and operating a Sacco without a license.

The is after the DPP approved several charges of fraud against Nyakang’o and 10 others.

The others are Jackson Wanjau,Susan Kendi,James Wanyagi, John Kithaka, Jane Ndanyi, Muthoni Elphas, Joan Chumo, Mercy Mukora,Gregory Mailu and Michael Kipkurui.

According to the charge sheet, on diverse dates between November 1 2019 and May 1 2020 at an unknown place in the country, they jointly with intent to defraud pretended that they were carrying on a genuine investment called FEP Sacco Advantage and falsely defrauded Sh 29 Million from Claudia Mutungi.

They were also charged with a second count of operating a Sacco without a license and it alleged that they jointly operated a sacco without a valid license from the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority.

It was also alleged that Nyakang’o and the other 10 on December 2 2019 without authority they forged Mutungi’s signature on her membership application.

Nyakang’o denied all the charges before Chief Magistrate Alex Ithuku and through her lawyer Godfrey Mutubia, she asked for lenient bail terms.

Ithuku released her on a Sh 2 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000.

The case will be mentioned on December 13 for pre-trial and further directions.
