Cyber Attendant Who Unknowingly Helped Client Flash Stolen Phone Charged with Theft

A woman who runs a cyber cafe in the city was arraigned in court on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a Samsung phone worth Sh 239,000 for a client.

Caroline Omung’ala was charged alongside Ahmed Anyanga for the offense of theft.

A distraught Omung’ala cried uncontrollably before the court, saying she did not know the phone was stolen when she helped Anyanga flash it.

It is alleged that on July 1, 2024, at Ngara Estate, they both conspired to steal a Samsung S24 Ultra, valued at Sh 239,000, the property of Watu Credit.

Anyanga was separately charged with stealing a Samsung Phone A24 valued at Sh 40,000, the property of Watu Credit, on December 5, 2023, at Hill Park Building.

According to Omung’ala, Anyanga requested to use her cyber services, and she had no idea that he was using her machine to flash a stolen phone.

They both denied the charges and pleaded with the court to grant them bail, with Omung’ala maintaining her innocence.

They were both released on a Sh 150,000 cash bail.
