The Office of the Directorate of Public prosecutions has filed an extradition papers against a Kenyan man who murdered his girlfriend in the US then fled to Kenya.
Kevin Kinyanjui Kangethe is alleged to have murdered his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu in Massachussets in the United States of America between October 30 and November 4 last year.
Kangethe was on Wednesday detained in custody for 30 days to allow the DPP time to file extradition papers and complete investigations into the said matter.
The DPP says his office received a formal extradition request from the United States on January 31, 2024 through the office of the Attorney General and department of Justice from the office of International Affairs , Criminal Division, Department of Justice, USA for the arrest and extradition of Fugitive Kangethe.
Kangethe is wanted by the Chelsea District Court at the County of Suffolk for the prosecution of a first degree murder.
It is alleged that he murdered his girlfriend Margaret Mbitu on October 31, 2023 by stabbing her multiple times in the face and neck and leaving her in a locked car in a parking garage at Boston Logan International Airport.
On Wednesday, the police told court that The police told court that both Kangethe and Mbitu who were in a relationship and were both resident of Massachusetts.
It was alleged that he has no fixed abode with police claiming that after fleeing the US he has not been seen at his home in Thogoto,Kiambu County.
