Ex-cop sentenced to 15 years behind bars for killing 24-year-old in Majengo

A former police officer who was found guily of killing 24-year-old Ahmed Majid in 2020 in Majengo has been sentenced to 15 years in jail by a Nairobi court.

Justice Daniel Ogembo on Friday sentenced David Mwongela saying that the ex-cop was has been remorseful for what he did to the young man instead he has continued to lay blame on the deceased.

At the time of his death, the late Majid had been married to his wife aged 22 years for one and a half yearsa and they had been blessed with an eight-month-old baby.

The judge further said that the negative impact on the family of the deceased following his death is obviously irreplaceable.

The court also ruled that the aggravating factors in the murder case outweighed the mitigation by the accused.

The prosecution has told court that the deceased was a young man who had his whole life ahead of him but his life was snuffed by the officer.

The victims Lawyer also told court that the act committed by Mwongela ending the life of a defenseless young man requires a serious custodial sentence.

“The act committed by the accused ended the life of a defenseless young man, this court should give a deterrent sentence, the convict still blames the deceased person for his death.” He submitted.
