Ex-Governors only grandchildren living in poverty after his son abandoned wife two years ago.

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto’s only grandchildren from his firstborn son are living in poverty after his son abandoned them two years ago.

Edwin Rono’s estranged wife Chepng’etich Koech has told court that since her husband left, she has had to downgrade and even pull one of the kids from their prestigious school.

Through lawyer Danstan Omari, Koech says after he left, he would send little amounts of money that could not cater for their needs so she had to downgrade.

In the case, Rono has filed for child custody even though the kids are living with Koech and his family does not provide for them adequately.

According to court papers, the abrupt change of school and lifestyle has greatly affected their firstborn daughter psychologically thereby tampering with her right to education.

“Plaintiff can afford to pay school fees for the two minors who are now in school but the Plaintiff has neglected and totally refused to cater for the school fees needs and school-related expenses in a reasonable school, for the minors,” Koech argues.

Koech has also argued that the current psychological abuse by her husband and his family is meant to intimidate and oppress her thereby making her destitute since he comes from a wealthy and politically connected family.

She further claims that the now want to throw her out of the house they were given by Rutto as a wedding gift.

Rono wants Koech and the children to move to the village which she has refused saying it’s a way for them to control her.

“Defendant is of the firm believe that the harassment and intimidation meted upon her by the Plaintiff is designed to ensure that she and the minors have no shelter, and that this is an apparent threat to the minors, making them be vulnerable under the category of children in need of care and protection,” reads court papers.

Omari who has recently taken up the matter has filed a certificate of urgency in court seeking for an early date to hear the case filed by Rono has been in court since September 16 but its never been heard.
