A Garissa assistant chief was on Wednesday arraigned before a Milimani Law courts where he was charged with fraudulently procuring a Kenyan registration of Birth to a Somali National.
Mohamud Mohamed Khalif, the Assistant Chief at Shabah Sub-location in Garissa County is alleged to have given misleading information about a Somali National which was fraudulently used to acquire a Kenyan Birth Certificate to the Somali National.
It is alleged that on March 6, 2024, Khalif informed a Civil Registration officer in Garissa County that the information contained in application forms for late registration of birth of one Yahye Abdisalan Ahmed of Somali origin was true making the Civil Registration officer to prepare and issue a birth certificate which ought not to have been issued were it not for the misleading information.
Khalif was further charged with the abuse of office for using his position as an assistant Chief to issue a register of birth which necessitated the issuance of birth certificate in abuse of the authority of his office.
He denied the charge before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and was released on a Sh 1 Million bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000.
