High-Stakes Trial Commences: Pastor Mackenzie Faces Manslaughter Charges in Mombasa Court

Pastor Paul Mackenzie, the leader of the Good News International Church in Kenya, first came under scrutiny when allegations emerged linking his teachings to the deaths of several followers. Mackenzie is accused of promoting extreme religious beliefs, including encouraging followers to starve themselves to “meet Jesus,” leading to multiple fatalities.

In April 2023, authorities discovered mass graves on his property in Shakahola Forest, prompting his arrest. Mackenzie now faces charges of manslaughter and other crimes, with his trial beginning today ; August 8th, 2024 at Mombasa Law Courts. The case has drawn significant attention, raising concerns about religious extremism in Kenya.
