A man accused of assaulting his wife appeared before the Milimani Court on Wednesday, facing charges of domestic violence.
Mbuguah Njiraini John stood before Magistrate Martha Nanzushi and pleaded not guilty to the assault charge. According to the prosecution, on June 29, 2024, in Ruai Township, Njiraini willfully and unlawfully assaulted his wife, Alice Wanjiru Kimani, causing her actual bodily harm.
Despite his plea of innocence, Njiraini will spend the night in detention as the court decides the appropriate venue for his trial.
Magistrate Nanzushi stated that the court will convene again on Thursday morning to determine whether the case will be transferred to Kibera or Makadara, as both courts specialize in handling gender-based violence cases.
