Director General Immigration Services Evelyne Cheluget was on Friday recognised as an inspiration among immigration women in the continent.
Cheluget was awarded a special recognition award by the Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) for being the immigration woman of the inspiration 2023 in Africa.
APSCA gave her the award in recognition of her 28 years of service and contribution to Kenya Immigration services.
In a colourful event held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Upperhill, Cheluget received the award from the organisers of the event amid cheers and admiration from hundreds of delegates across Africa.
Also in attendance was Chief Guest Second Lady Dr. Dorcas Rigathi who was accompanied by CS Tourism Penina Malonza and CS Environment Soipan Tuya.
APSCA which was first hosted in Kigali, Rwanda in 2018 sheds light on the untold success stories recognising public servants who drive government’s most significant accomplishments and work tirelessly to protect their health and well-being.
Cheluget’s award is a testament of her vast years of experience at the immigration having risen through the ranks to be the Acting Director General Immigration.
She was appointed to the position on May 12, 2023 in acting position to take over from former boss Alexander Muteshi.
Cheluget has over 28 years experience in the civil service working in the immigration department having been employed in 1994 as an immigration officer and rising to be the boss.
Some of the position held by the DG include, Senior Immigration Officer in charge of Wilson Airport from April 2001 to 2004, Assistant Principal Immigration Officer in charge of permits and passes division from 2005 to 2007.
She was also an Assistant Principal immigration officer in charge of JKIA from 2007 to 2010 and later promoted to Assistant Director Immigration Attache’ in Washington DC where she was until 2015.
In 2015 she was promoted to the Assistant Director of Immigration in charge of passport division then later to Deputy director of immigration services in charge of Visa division.
