Kabete Polytechnic student who impersonated ex-governor Sonko on Facebook charged.

A student at Kabete National Polytechnic who is alleged to have impersonated former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko was on Monday charged in court.

Tyson Kibet was arraigned in court and charged with cybersquatting contrary to the law.

It was alleged that Kibet created a Facebook account in the name of Mike Sonko without authority of the said former County boss.

According to the charge sheet, on November 25, last year at unknown place within the republic of Kenya, Kibet intentionally created the said Facebook account with an intent to defraud Kenyans using Sonko’s credentials.

He denied the charges and the prosecution asked the court to either deny him bond or release him on very stringent bond terms.

But, through his lawyer, Kibet pleaded with the court to give him bail saying that he is a student and should be granted very low bond terms.

Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi allowed Kibet’s submissions and released him on a personal bond ruling that she was a student.

The Magistrate said that the accused was a young man and the he could be a student and that he could be having ongoing exams hence he deserved to be released on reasonable bond terms.

“I have listened to the submissions from both the prosecuting Council and the defense. The accused person herein is a young man, he could be a student at the said college and he could be having ongoing exams. As a result I will release him on a personal bond of sh 1 million with an alternative cash bail of sh 200,000.” She ruled.
