Kenyan man wanted in the US for killing his girlfriend detained for 30 days.

A Kenyan man who fled the US after allegedly killing his girlfriend a nurse was on Wednesday detained in police custody for 30 days.

Kevin Kangethe was arraigned on Tuesday night at a local club in Westlands after evading police since October when he landed.

It is alleged that Kangethe killed Margaret Mbitu and stashed her body in a car boot then booked a ticket to Kenya.

Magistrate Zainab Abdul allowed the application by the state to detain him as they conclude investigations and also process his extradition.

The court while allowing the application said the offense alleged was very serious.

“There being no objection and owing to the fact that DPP wants to extradite the suspect and the seriousness of this matter the accused is hereby detained at ..Muthaiga police station.matter to be mentioned on 4th of March,” court ruled.

It is alleged that Kangethe allegedly killed the woman in October last year before fleeing to Kenya.

The DPP has told the court that there are several applications to be made including that of extradition to the US so that he can face murder charges.

The court heard that when he returned into the country, he went into hiding where he allegedly kept constant communication using various telephone numbers with his friends back in the US and a few of his family and friends here in Kenya

It was alleged that he has no fixed abode with police claiming that after fleeing the US he has not been seen at his home in Thogoto,Kiambu County.

The police told court that both Kangethe and Mbitu who were in a relationship and were both resident of Massachusetts.

It is alleged that Kangethe violently attacked and repeatedly stabbed Margaret on the face and neck areas causing catastrophic injuries that led to her death .
