An autopsy conducted on the late Hon. Joel Munuve Kimanzi, the former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Kariobangi North Ward in Nairobi County, has confirmed that he passed away due to a blood clot.
Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor stated that an external examination revealed signs of oxygen deprivation, including darkened lips and fingernails, indicating that Hon. Munuve was not receiving sufficient oxygen at the time of his death.
“Upon opening the body, the most significant findings were in the lungs,” said Dr. Oduor. “We discovered a large blood clot in the pulmonary artery, a condition that can lead to sudden death.”
Further examination revealed another clot in a blood vessel located in the lower limb, suggesting the presence of deep vein thrombosis.
Dr. Oduor concluded that the fatal clot likely traveled from the leg to the lungs, ultimately obstructing blood flow and preventing oxygen from reaching vital organs.
A pathologist representing the family also confirmed these findings, stating that the clot originated in the leg, migrated to the lungs, and blocked circulation to the heart, leading to Hon. Munuve’s untimely death.
