Man raises over 21 million for his dowry payment

A man who formed a WhatsApp group to get funds towards payment of his dowry and traditional wedding managed to raise over Sh 21 million.

Daniel Wambua rallied his family and friends to help him raise money to pay for his dowry and he indeed got a lot of support looking at how much he managed to raise.

In Whatsapp messages seen by CH News, over 800 people gave their contributions towards the cause.

The message inviting the members to contribute read as follows “Dear Family and Friends, “Most Welcome to this group, which has been created to assist in mobilising resources towards our great brother/friends Daniel Wambua’s traditional wedding function will be on August 5 at Mitaboni Machakos County,”

The highest amount of contribution made was Sh785,000 from Wambua’s family and the least was 5,000.

Wambua’s friends gave between Sh 250,000 and Sh 100,000 with the rest giving Sh 50,000 and below.

The money was being paid straight to an equity bank account which was opened specifically for that mission.

From the whatsapp screenshots, a total of 816 people made different contributions towards the dowry payments.

Last EACC raised alarm over the huge amount raised in less than four months and got orders freezing the account saying its money from proceeds of crime.

Wambua has told court that the money is for paying his dowry saying even the though the traditional ceremony took place, he still has to fulfil tradition by paying dowry.

He wants the court to release the money to him so that he can go pay dowry.
