In today’s court news, former Migori governor Okoth Obado has told a Nairobi court that his wife was fully aware of his affair with late University student Sharon Otieno and her pregnancy for him.
Obado was defending himself in the murder case of the late Sharon where he was put on his defense by the judge as he had a case to answer for her murder and that of her unborn child.
The court heard that the former county boss has come clean to wife about the affair with Sharon and promised to end it further apologising to her.
Obado’s wife was also aware that Sharon was pregnant for him and that he had decided to take responsibility for the baby.
Interestingly, Obado says his wife had even offered to give Sharon one of the houses to which he reused telling her he had no intention of marrying the student as a second wife.
Further Obado also told court that how they had several meetings about Sharon, some which his wife was present.
Obado says in one of the private meetings, he found his wife, a journalist and an unidentified man in a boardroom where the journalist said he had been approached to write about the affair.
He says it was even his wife who loaned him Sh 30,000 which he gave to the journalists that day.
In another meeting with journalist Lawrence Muller, Obado says that they discussed proposal from Sharon on how she wanted to be settled by being given a house in either in Nairobi or Kisumu.
However, he rejected the proposal by Sharon and instead offered to buy her a piece of land in Homa Bat and building her a house worth Sh 3 M.
Sharon had refused the Homa Bay land insisting that she would rather be given a 50 by 100 land in Kisumu but Obado says he was clear to Muller that it was either the Homa Bay land or nothing.
He says that’s when Sharon decided to rent a house as she waited for her house to be completed.
Unfortunately she was brutally murdered days later with her unborn baby and Obado is among three people charged with her murder.
