Controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie has been charged with 17 counts related to child torture in relation to the Shakahola massacre.
Mackenzie was charged alongside 38 of his co accused who are also alleged to have tortured the children.
The charges included subjecting a child to torture contrary to the law and an alternative count of assault causing bodily harm
Others were cruelty to a child contrary to the law and infringing a child’s right to education.
They denied the charges before Tononoka children’s court principal Magistrate Nelly Chepchirchir.
The case will be mentioned on February 15 2024 for hearing of the bail application.
Mackenzie was also charged on Tuesday with over 200 counts of manslaughter for the death of his followers in Shakahola.
