A senior cop and three other officers were on Monday charged with selling ammunition to criminals and engaging in organized crimes.
Joel Warui Githaiga, Martin Murimi,Josphat Karanja and Teresia Maina were arraigned before Kibera Law courts
They were charged with being in possession of ammunition,Engaging in organized criminal activity and conspiracy to commit a felony.
It is alleged that April 17 at Monjore area in Laikipia County within Republic of Kenya jointly with others not before court were found in possession of 2658 round of ammunition suitable for use in Russian AK 47 riffle without a valid license from firearm licensing board.
They were also charged with another count of sabotage and it’s alleged that between September 1 last year and April 19 this year they willfully and unlawfully offered to sale the ammunition to criminals in Laikipia County knowing that the act would interfere with Government of Kenya policy and security measure to bring peace and stability in Laikipia and neighboring counties.
They all denied the charges before Kibera court and through Lawyer Danstan Omari asked court to release them on reasonable bail terms.
However, the prosecution objected their release on bail saying they are a flight risk and should not be granted bail.
In an affidavit filed in court, the prosecution said the accused might interfere with witnesses if released.
