SENIOR MANAGER WHO STOLE OVER 254 M FROM EMPLOYER LOSES BID TO REDUCE BOND.

A former senior manager at Printing Services Ltd who was charged with stealing over Sh 254 M from the company has lost a bid to reduce his Sh 3 M cash bail.

Cheekati Narasimha Rao who was charged in December had made an application before trial court to reduce his bail saying he could not raise it.

Rao is accused of embezzling SH 254,461,768 between January 2016 and August 2024 from Printing Services
Ltd.

He requested a reduction from Sh 3 million bail to a lower amount telling court that he has health concerns that need urgent care away from remand.

Through his lawyer, Wanyama, Cheekati argued that his medical condition cannot allow him spend a night in police cells.

Subsequently, Advocate Kimani Wachira, representing the complainant, objected the request, arguing that Cheekati had previously attempted to flee the court’s jurisdiction.

He asserted that such actions disqualified him from being granted lenient bond terms.

Wachira further urged the court to order Cheekati to surrender his passport in court to prevent any potential escape while the case proceeds.

In her ruling, magistrate Carolyne Mugo maintained the bond terms, granting Rao Sh 10 million bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh3 million.

The magistrate rejected his application, stating that she cannot review her own ruling.

Additionally, he was also directed to deposit his passport in the court’s safe custody.

In the case, Rao is charged with stealing by servant where the prosecution alleged that he allegedly stole the money in question by virtue of his employment at Printing Services Limited.

He is also charged with forgery where he is accused of forging the signature of Malkiat Sigh Dhillon on a letter of appointment by promoting himself to the position of production manager of the company.
