Six people who were arraigned in court last week for allegedly swindling millions of money from NHIF by using fake surgical claims have been charged with fraud.
The six are Otieno Kennedy, John Muli, Mohamed Bwana Mkuu, Sharon Muoko, Risper Moraa and Joseph Oduor.
They are all accused of making forged Preauthorization forms, discharge summary and Invoices and using them to defraud NHIF over Sh 5 million.
They allegedly purported that the forged medical documents were for medical services offered to NHIF patients at Joy Nursing and Maternity Ltd Hospital.
Otieno Kennedy together with the Joy Nursing and Maternity hospital in EastLeigh management were charged that on diverse dates between January 2022 and June 2023 unlawfully obtained Ksh 5,720,000 from NHIF by lodging 35 false surgical claims.
They denied the charges before Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi arguing that the charges were frivolous.
They pleaded with the court to grant them reasonable bail terms.
Otieno was released on a bond of Sh 2 million while the other accused persons were released on Sh 300,000 cash bail.
The case will be mentioned on December 2, 2024 for pretrial.
