Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja has told court that she never approved of the relationship between her late daughter Tecra and Omar Lali.
While testifying in the inquest into her death, Karanja said that as a family they were not comfortable with the relationship between Tecra and Lali.
In cross-examination by Lali’s lawyer, she said to her Lali was greedy adding that the relationship was not normal as he would receive huge amount of money from a young woman.
“For us it was not normal,a child to transfer money to a 60 year old man ,that’s not normal,” Karanja said.
She also denied allegations that she was controlling her late daughter saying even though she did not approve of the relationship she let them be as she was an adult.
“She knew what was she was doing was wrong. I did not approve of that relationship, It was not about the looks, you are not Jehova to know who looks good,” Karanja said.
According to Karanja, sometimes in November 2019 Tecra sent to her a photo of Lali telling her that he was a friend.
Karanja then told her that the man was old and she was concerned about it.
The senator even claims Lali became a celebrity because of the incident involving her daughter.
Tecra died in 2020 after allegedly falling in a holiday home in Lamu and at the time Lali was the main suspect before the matter was referred for an inquest.
Lali maintains that Tecra died after falling at the house they were in and has denied killing her saying he loved her.
