A Junior Secondary School teacher was on Thursday arraigned before Milimani Law Courts for allegations of impersonating President William Ruto’s daughter June on social media.
According to court records, Samwel Mogwasi Mainga was arrested on Wednesday on April 9, 2025, in Mombasa County on allegations of violating the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.
In an affidavit submitted in court sworn by P.C. Peter Mwangi, one of the lead investigators in the case, he stated that the investigation is still ongoing and they needed more time to be able to complete investigations.
They requested for more time to gather key evidence, including documents related to the suspect’s social media accounts and additional witness statements.
The prosecution also expressed concerns that Mainga may attempt to flee the country if released since his place of residence has not yet been confirmed.
The police asked court to allow them to detain the teacher for seven days to conclude their investigations.
However, through his lawyer Danstan Omari, he opposed the application by the investigator telling court is a registered teacher with the Teacher Service Commission and has a fixed place of residence hence he cannot be a flight risk.
Omari while cross-examining the police officer, brought to the attention of the court that the teacher was arrested while taking pupils to an academic trip at the coastal region and that the pupils were left stranded.
The teacher has been remanded at Capital Hill police station until tomorrow when he will know whether he will be granted bail or detained.
