A woman from Thika was on Tuesday arraigned before court alongside her son and two others for allegedly killing her brother’s estranged mother-in-law.
Anne Wanjiru and her son Edwin Wanjiru were arraigned in court alongside Eliud Muiruri and Simon Wanjiku on suspicion of being behind the death of Dorothy Kiaraho.
The late Kiaraho was attacked at Kenyatta road by unknown people on February 15 this year who poured acid on her which led to her death two months after the incident.
Police asked the court said to allow them detain the four for 21 days to allow them complete investigations into the murder.
However, Wanjiru’s lawyer Danstan Omari strongly opposed the application saying that’s a lot of days and his clients are willing to help investigators but they should be granted bail.
The court deferred the matter to Thursday this week when it will deliver ruling on the application by police.
According to police sources, Wanjiru is the sister to Patrick Murathimi who was married to the late Kiaraho’s daughter.
Both Murathimi and his ex-wife are based in the US and are currently in the middle of several court cases filed as a result of collapse of their marriage.
Police believe that Murathimi might have hired people through his sister to kill his former mother-in-law.
