Two Men Suspected to Have ‘Abducted’ and Killed British National Detained for 21 Days

Two men who are suspected to have been with the late British Campbell Scott at a house in pipeline estate before his body was found dumped in Makueni have been detained for 21 days to allow police complete investigations.

Police are investigating Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albunus Mutinda Nzioki playing a part in the murder of Scott who was in Kenya for a conference at JW Marriot Hotel but disappeared only to be found dumped in a forest.

The prosecution told that preliminary investigations indicate Scott was taken to Alex Mutua’s house in Pipeline, Nairobi, where he is believed to have been murdered.

The prosecution said the the two suspects allegedly attempted to access money using Scott’s credit cards in Nairobi, Voi, and Mombasa before their arrest.

The two were arrested on March 1 along the Nairobi-Mombasa Road, and it was established that the first suspect had already moved his belongings out of the Pipeline residence.

“His phone and credit cards are yet to be recovered. Due to the seriousness of the case, the applicant is apprehensive that if released on bail at this time, they will not attend court,” the state argued.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina allowed the application by the state ruling that the application meets the requirements of the constitution for two to be held in police custody for a period of 21 days as sought.

The case will be mentioned on March 24.

According to police reports, it is believed that Scott may have taken pills in unknown circumstances as the autopsy results did not show any form of strangulation or blunt trauma ruling out the two.

The government pathologist has taken samples for toxicology analysis to ascertain the cause of death.
