Two police officers who are alleged to be selling ammunition in Laikipia detained

Two police officers who are alleged to be selling firearms and ammunition to members of the public in Laikipia have been detained for three days.

Chief Inspector Joel Githaiga and PC Martin Murimi will be detained till April 25 when the matter will be mentioned.

Kibera court allowed the application by the state to detain the two pending further investigations into allegations of them selling firearms and ammunitions.

According to police ,the two officers the ammunition sold are believed to commit crimes of murder and banditry within Laikipia County and it their adjacent counties.

“That other suppliers and buyers of the ammunition are still at large and there is need to hold the suspect, conduct further investigations and make more arrests,” the application reads.

In affidavit by officer Nicholas Njoroge ,three metallic boxes containing 750 rounds of ammunition each ,15 small metallic boxes weee recovered.

Lawyer Danstan Omari asked the court to allow Joel to go to hospital for checkup as he was unwell further saying he is a national hero and sharp shooter.
