Visa Oshwal life guard detained for a week wee over death of minor at Swimming Pool

A Life guard at Visa Oshwal Primary School will now spend one week in custody to allow police complete investigations into death of a minor at the school.

He was arrested following the drowning of the 11 years old grade 2 pupil whose body was found in the school swimming pool after he went missing for a day.

According to court documents, Geoffrey Opala Juma was captured on CCTV sitting while the deceased child walked towards the swimming pool but he concealed that information concerning the child walking towards the pool.

The state told magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo that Juma intentionally neglected his duty by failing to prevent the minor from going to the swimming pool.

Onsarigo allowed the application to have him detained at Parklands police station but for seven days.

It is alleged that the late Abdikarim Ali was reported missing on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, evening when his parent went to pick him up from school.

His body was retrieved the following day from the school’s swimming pool under unclear circumstances.

Police claim that the offense was committed of 20th at around 3.30 pm while the guard was on duty at the school.
