Woman Charged with Hiring Assassin to Kill City Businessman for Sh 1 Million

A woman accused of paying an assassin Sh 1 million upfront, with a promise of an additional Sh 20 million upon completing the job, has been charged in a Nairobi court with conspiracy to commit murder.

Winfred Wandia Kisau appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi on Thursday, where she faced charges of plotting to kill businessman Antony Maina Mutahi. According to the prosecution, Kisau, along with others not present in court, conspired to murder Mutahi between July and August 1, 2024, at an undisclosed location in Kenya.

Kisau pleaded not guilty to the charges and requested lenient bail terms. The court granted her a bond of Sh 1 million with a similar surety, or an alternative cash bail of Sh 300,000, provided she also presents a contact person.

Police investigations revealed that Kisau was embroiled in a legal dispute with another woman, Rosemary Muathe, over a property Kisau had leased. The property was later transferred to Mutahi, allegedly motivating Kisau’s plot to have him eliminated.

The court heard that Kisau introduced Marvin Omondi Abisalom to Rosemary, with the intent of contracting him to carry out Mutahi’s murder. The two women allegedly agreed to pay Omondi Sh 1 million upfront, with the promise of an additional Sh 20 million after the job was completed.

However, on July 28, 2024, Omondi reached out to Mutahi and informed him of the plot to kill him, thwarting the assassination.

The case will be mentioned again on September 3, 2024, for further directions.
