Woman Who Accused Househelp of Stealing 1 M Put to Task by Defense.

A woman who accused her Househelp of stealing Sh 1 M from her house was on Wednesday put to task by defense lawyers to prove that it was her maid who took the money.

Edna Kemunto Wanyara’s lawyer, Danstan Omari while cross-examining Zahara Mohammed confirmed to court that the maid might not have had access to the room where the money was taken from.

Zahara said she used to leave her key with her neighbour whenever leaving she left the house.

The court heard that after withdrawing the money which had been sent by her son from Canada, she used a Taxi while going home although she was carrying the huge amount of money in a shoe box.

The court heard that the alleged stolen money had been lying in the house for approximately 5 days before the complainant realised it was missing.

It was also established that there were other people who knew that the complainant would be receiving money from her son in Canada.

Further, the court heard that nobody witnessed Kemunto stealing the alleged money.

She confirmed before court that the only reason she believe Kemunto stole the money was because she switched off her phone and went missing for days until she was arrested in August 2024.

The defence has demonstrated before court how it would be possible that the said money was stolen by someone at large given the fact that even neighbours had access to the house and that nobody actually witnessed the suspect stealing the money.

In the case, Kemunto is accused of stealing Sh 1,022,000 from her employer.
