A woman who stole a three year old girl from Langata Women Prison was on Monday charged with child theft.
Sharon Wanyonyi was arraigned before the Kibera Law courts where she denied the charge of theft.
It is alleged that on September 29, 20323 at Langata women’s prisons in Langata Sub-County, she stole a three-year-old child hence denying the complainant a rightful decision to stay with her daughter.
She was also charged with second count stealing some of the items from her employer’s house all totaling to Sh 72,180 the property of Ruth Mulwa.
She was also charged with stealing household items worth the above stated a month and in addition, she allegedly stole a brown big bag that she used to carry the alleged stolen items.
According to court records, a woman saw Wanyonyi carrying the kid from the prison and followed her after suspecting that she had stolen the child.
The woman traced her from the time she boarded a matatu heading to town to the time she alighted and then she notified some members of the public who arrested Wanyonyi and took her to the police station.
She was released on a Sh 200,000 cash bail or alternative bond of the same amount.
The case will be mentioned on October 16 for pre-trial.
